Published by:

Home Sliding Closet DoorsYou might have asked the question before as to why your sliding closet doors in your bedroom keep coming off their tracks, get jammed against each other or drive you crazy in more ways than that! If you have closet doors that are jammed, then before you give up let’s see what can be done to fix these doors so you can get back into the closet once again!

Your Handyman:

Custom sliding closet doors are a popular service call many people must make when their doors come off the track. It’s very rare that the problem is going to keep anyone trapped inside a closet, but stranger things have happened. Older style sliding door designs have a ceiling mounted tracks which are mounted at the top of the door. These can have hung up on carpeting or other obstructions in the closet, forcing the person to have to lift the door out of the track vertically instead of side to side. Heavy to lift back onto the tracks some sliding closet doors can be difficult for a home owner to maintain at times. It is also the case often enough that older sliding doors that were installed over hardwood, carpeting was put down sometime later, but were never trimmed to allow for the sliding door to move smoothly along. You can remove the doors and trim the base manually of course, but this is not going to be easy if the rollers are damaged or not in working shape.

You may have to upgrade if this is the case, so removing the “J” style track and rollers and installing a new “C” style track which encloses its rollers right inside the track. In other words, the roller trolley will never come off the track and will work for you indefinitely. The installation process is only about 2-3 hours for a standard 6’-7’ wide closet with 2 bypass doors. The hardware will cost about $150, and will make for a nice improvement in the appearance of your bedroom.
